This unit covers four Lenten Sundays in Year C. It is designed to help students understand the need to stand firm in their faith; God s free and generous mercy; the new worldview and mindset of a Christian; and the role of personal effort in spiritual growth.
Lesson 1: The Fabric of Faith--Because Christians are citizens of God s kingdom, with its eternal values, we can be confident in our faith. (Genesis 15:1-12, 17-18; Psalm 27; Philippians 3:17-4:1; Luke 9:28-36)
Lesson 2: Soul Food--God is merciful and freely provides a new future to anyone who turns (or returns) to God and seeks pardon. (Isaiah 55:1-9; Psalm 63:1-8; 1 Corinthians 10:1-13; Luke 13:1-9)
Lesson 3: How to Be a World Changer --Because of Christ s life, death, and resurrection, the world became a different place in which Christians see and act in radically new and different ways; such as working toward reconciliation between people and God and each other. (Joshua 5:9-12; Psalm 32; 2 Corinthians 5:16-21; Luke 15:1-3, 11b-32)
Lesson 4: Pressing On --Spiritual life comes from God alone, by faith, but that life must be nurtured and developed through continual personal effort. (Isaiah 43:16-21; Psalm 126; Philippians 3:4b-14; John 12:1-8)
