Lectionary Year A, Unit 05

About This Product This unit covers the Second Sunday after Lent through the Fifth Sunday after Lent in Lectionary Year A. During this unit, students will learn about God s blessing, living water, anointing, and Spirit.

Lesson 1: Blessed to be a Blessing--God promised extravagant blessings for Abraham, and He pours out His blessings on us as well. But with blessing comes responsibility--first we must receive the blessing by faith, and then we obey by becoming a blessing to others. Students will learn how Abraham serves as our example of the life of faith--a proper response to God is to live out His word by believing and obeying (Genesis 12:1-4a; Psalm 121; Romans 4:1-5, 13-17; John 3:1-17).

Lesson 2: Who Do You Need?--Students will examine how God poured out Christ, the Living Water, to drown our rebellious nature. He has power to quench our thirst for righteousness, even when we don't know that for which we thirst. God is faithful to provide us with a means for life in Him, even when we are in the midst of rejecting His ways (Exodus 17:1-7 ; Psalm 95; Romans 5:1-11; John 4:5-42).

Lesson 3: With Oil and Mud--The theme of this lesson is anointing. The anointing meant the transition point from one kind of life to another. For David, it meant the transition from shepherd to future king. For the blind man, it meant a transition from a life of blindness to a life of sight. God touches our lives in a special way to fill us with His Spirit, heal us, and give us power to live for Him. (1 Samuel 16:1-13; Psalm 23; Ephesians 5:8-14; John 9:1-41).

Lesson 4: Dead Men Walking--Students will learn that the Spirit of God within us raises us out of the death of sin to a new life of holiness. His mission is to give life to that which has no life, to return significance and purpose to that which has been ruined.(Ezekiel 37:1-14; Psalm 130; Romans 8:6-11; John 11:1-45)
