Prophecy and Apocalyptic

About This Product This unit is designed to help students better understand prophetic and apocalyptic literature. Both can be found in the Bible and both can seem mysterious and puzzling to inhabitants of a post-enlightenment society. In this unit, students will 1) explore the crucial relationship between Israel and the Church; 2) look at the issues revolving around the biblical theme of the last days; 3) look at apocalyptic literature in general; and 4) look at the Book of Revelations.

Lesson 1: Israel and the Church--This lesson explores the relationship between Israel and the Church while attempting to answer the question, "Why is Israel important to the Christian Church, and to God's program of salvation to all humankind?" (Genesis 12:1-3; Exodus 19:5-6; Romans 9-11)

Lesson 2: Are We Living in the Last Days?--This lesson looks at the issues of the Rapture, the Antichrist and the nature of the kingdom of God, and how they all hinge upon the profound hope of the return of Jesus Christ. (Matthew 24; Mark 13; Luke 12:35-487, 21:5-38; Acts 1:10-11; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-5:11; 2 Thessalonians 2:1-12; 1 John 2:18, 22, 4:3; 2 John 7)

Lesson 3: Apocalyptic Literature: An Overview--This lesson examines apocalyptic issues-the secret, symbolic, and paradoxically pessimistic optimism of the end-time faith of the early believers in the final triumph of God over evil. (Isaiah 24-27; Ezekiel 38-39; Matthew 24-25; Mark 13; Luke 21; Revelation)

Lesson 4: Revelation: The Apocalypse of John--This lesson takes a look at Revelation. Though it was written to 1st-century believers, and much of its symbolism pertains to that period of history, Revelation is an oasis of hope for 21st-century believers who look with longing hearts for the return of Jesus Christ.
